Croatian Fraternal Union
Welland Lodge 617 of the Croatian Fraternal Union of America celebrates its 100th anniversary, marked by a rich history. It began with meetings in members' homes and later moved to a "hall of memories" on Fifth Street for over five decades, before settling at the Croatian National Home. Established in 1924, Lodge 617 was the first CFU Lodge in Ontario, and it became a center for Croatian culture, preserving traditions and providing mutual support for Croatian immigrants.
Key milestones include the founding of the lodge and its children's "nest" in 1924 and 1925, the purchase of property for the first Croatian Hall in 1925, and its move to the Croatian National Home in 1977. Lodge 617 promoted Croatian heritage through tamburitza music groups and league bowling, fostering community across generations.
Today, it celebrates a legacy of brotherhood, love, and the immigrant spirit.
